Missions at First United Methodist Church
Younge's Island, South CarolinaFor 20 years, families from FUMC have traveled to Yonge's Island, South Carolina and worked through Rural Mission, Inc. to help improve the lives of many residents there. We have had as few as 18 volunteers to as many as 44 make this trip. We have repaired and built porches, put on new roofs, replaced floors, installed new windows, doors, carpet, bathrooms and built new houses. This is always a very busy week in June for all who travel there. It's an awesome and life changing experience. Check out pictures from the 2009 trip!
FISH Pantry
The FISH Pantry has been in existance for many years and provides nutritious food for people in need in our community. It has helped many people make it through tough times and is run totally by donations.
Wesley Thrift Shop
Located at 315 West Market Street, people can both buy and sell new and gently used clothing and other items. Many men and women of FUMC volunteer time each month to run the Thrift Shop. Proceeds from the Thrift Shop go to support many missions of the church. The Thrift Shop is open 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. - noon on Saturdays.
Youth Mission trips
Our youth have gone on special mission trips to Honduras to help build shelter for children who have no place to live except the street, often referred to as "Street Children". In the time they have worked there, shelter has been built and many children are now enjoying safe shelter, regular schooling and meals. Plus the Love of Jesus surrounds them there.
