In 2008, CUMC continued its commitment to being inclusive of people regardless of their sexual
orientation by taking the formal step of becoming a Reconciling Congregation.

This year also saw the dedication of our Safe Haven Room, as a refuge and meeting place, with  inspiring
leadership by Jerry Sommersmeth, our longtime community peace activist and musician.

Safe Haven Room is the meeting place for Skagit PFLAG, (Parents & Friends of Lesbians & Gays),
who hold their meetings there at 7PM on the second Monday of each month.

Our pastor is also involved with the local Gay-Straight Alliance, which seeks
to provide a support network for students in our Skagit County schools.
