Announcements
The roof is now reshingled! Any special donations to finish paying for it will be greatly appreciated.
The November coffee hour will be held on the second Sunday of October due to conflicts. So come join us at 9:45 in the basement for coffee and doughnuts-and a great Sunday School lesson! Doughnuts will also be available between Sunday School and Worship.
Anytime you have a newsworthy item that you would like to share with others, please get it to Donna Wignall for the November newsletter.
Be sure to look for the birthday list on the bulletin board in the narthex. There is a need to update our birthday/anniversary records.
Cluster Mission Trip Our Cluster of United Methodist Churches will be taking a mission trip to Van Cleave, Mississippi for the week of Jan 21 through Feb 6, 2010. The basic cost per person will be at least $150, the cost depending on the cost of transportation and the number of people going. We still have sausage left and for only $4 for a pound. It's delicious, handy to keep in the freezer, and perhaps a necessary ingredient for some of your holiday cooking. See Terry Wignall to pick up yours!
Prayer Shawl Ministry
We're looking for knitters and crocheters who are interested in participating in a prayer shawl ministry. Pastor Ardith would like to have prayer shawls available to take to those who are ill, suffered a loss, or who have a great joy in their life. A prayer shawl takes with it the prayers of the person who has created it and the congregation who has prayed and dedicated it. The shawl can be made of any type yarn and any type fringe. Approximate size is 26'' x 60''. This typically takes three or four skeins of yarn. Please see Pastor Ardith for more specific instructions .
Two friends were walking through the desert.During some point of the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:''Today my best friend slapped me in the face.''They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:''Today my best friend saved my life.'' The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, ''After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now you write on a stone. Why?'' The friend replied, ''When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand, where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when someone does something good for us we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your benefits in stone.
''What is it like to be a Christian?''
"It's like being a pumpkin.God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves you a smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.'' This was passed on to me by another pumpkin.I liked it enough to send it to all the pumpkins in my patch. Now it's your turn to pass it to other pumpkins.Happy Fall!!!
