Welcome
From the Smithfield Brock United Methodist Church Sowing the Word in Fulton County since 1835.
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. . . . This is good and pleases God our Savior. 1 Tim 2:1, 3a (NLT)
I had the pleasure this week of hearing the story of Cami Walker, a young lady diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis only one month after her wedding. The disease progressed quickly and she soon found herself in a wheelchair. One day she called her spiritual advisor fully expecting to find a listening ear as she whined about her condition. That was not to be the case. Instead, she was told to give something away for the next 29 days and then report back. Not the answer she expected! But, that day she began an adventure she continues to this day. Giving to others brought her pleasure and improved her health. She is no longer in a wheel chair and she no longer feels a need to call a friend just to whine.
I won’t tell you how many times I’ve been told, “It’s not about you, Mom!” I will tell you it really is a great joy to fix a pot of soup or a dessert or a meal for someone who needs a pick-me-up. I have enjoyed the ‘warm fuzzy’ when I’ve stopped to take a sandwich and a drink to someone on the street. I still recall the satisfaction of being covered in paint and thinking about the joy of preschoolers on their first day of school in a newly painted area. I remember being very thankful for my own bed when I wiped down a bed mat in a homeless shelter. I’ll never forget the thankful eyes of a child and his dad when I served a hot cooked meal. We are quickly approaching the season of thankfulness and giving. I pray in the coming days you might find a way to share a part of yourself with someone. It will certainly help them, and it may be of great benefit to you, too. Most importantly, it shows our love for our neighbor—and it pleases God! See you in church.
See you in church.
