Bible Study Guide

 2005 Schedule

Our Summer Bible Study is on the Gospel of Mark.  We begin each session with 10 minutes of guitar-led singing of old favorites and new praise songs.  Bring your Bible, a notebook, and a pen or pencil.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  1. The Word of God is Jesus Christ.
  2. No Christian has a monopoly on Biblical understanding.
  3. We assume everyone has Christian integrity.
  4. We will arrive at different understandings of the Scripture.
  5. We will use a variety of English translations of the Bible.
  6. Differences between class members are accepted as important.
  7. We will remain Christian friends.
  8. Not everyone will agree on all of these principles.

LEADER’S ROLE

  1. Leader will ensure that the study begins and ends on time.
  2. Leader will be fully prepared for this week’s lesson.
  3. Leader will facilitate discussion and encourage all to participate.
  4. Leader will remain after class to discuss personal issues that arise.
  5. Leader will pray for divine insight and discernment.

STUDENT’S ROLE

  1. Student will arrive on time or a few minutes early.
  2. Student will prepare for each lesson, having read assigned Scripture and completed any preliminary assignments.
  3. Student will utilize multiple translations of the Bible.
  4. Student will become familiar with at least one favorite commentary.
  5. Student will pray for divine insight and discernment.
