Any religion other than Roman Catholicism was forbidden while Texas was part of Mexico. This changed after Texas independence in 1836, and by 1839, the Methodist community around Crockett was large and well-organized enough to form the Church. By 1901, after many years of meeting in temporary facilities, the congregation built the beautiful sanctuary we still use today. A centenial celebration was held in September, 2001. In 1923, the Church added Sunday School rooms; some are still in use, and others are now the Church office. The Baby Boom came to Crockett along with everyone else; in 1953, we added a Fellowship Hall and Education Wing; more classrooms were built in 1968. Our latest addition is our modern Family Life Center, completed in 1999. |
