About Us

At the back of the sanctuary at Countryside there are six windowpanes. On these panes are etchings of churches. You will see there Alice Chapel, Lost Grove, and Pleasant Hill, all of which merged many years back into the Methodist churches of Philo and Sidney. You will also find etchings of the Methodist churches of Philo and Sidney which came together to form Countryside in 1976. At the front of the sanctuary is a cross—the symbol of our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior that brings us together as Christians.

The people of these communities and this area have been coming together as Methodist Christians since the 1830s. Almost 175 years later they are still gathering to worship together at Countryside. These Methodist Christians unite to study the Bible, to fellowship, to do ministry and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Countryside is all about people coming together to serve God.

Countryside was born of a vision for the churches of Philo and Sidney to grow stronger by uniting. This church continues to draw its strength from the uniting of its people. Since the founding of the Methodist churches in these communities, the school district has united. Modern technology has made it much faster and easier for people to communicate, visit and connect. Our very world seems to have grown smaller and better known.

Yet, the trend is for Americans to live as isolated individuals or nuclear families. Most Americans drive to work alone and stay at home to watch TV or to sit alone in front of a computer. But so much is missed when community is lacking. When we do not have a community of people who care for us and for whom we care we are not living the abundant life Jesus promised. Life is enriched when it is lived as part of a caring group, part of God’s church.

Countryside’s strength has always come from uniting people. We invite you to become part of our community.
