Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Watching all of the natural disasters that have impacted people’s lives around the world have been difficult this past year, especially when our faith teaches us to help those in need. The only real ability for most of us to help is to send money or items that are needed in the stricken area. In comparison to those regions of the world facing these disasters, we have been truly blessed living in the state of New Jersey. Yet at the same time, there is a continued need in areas of our own state where people could use help with their homes, including many looking for support on home repairs. This need is normally unable to be addressed due to financial or health reasons – or a combination of both.
Christian Outreach Project is now in its 30th year of operation in 2012 as a non-profit organization to help support those type of needs. For one week every year, we bring together teenage youth and adults from various local churches to help families in need in the Sussex, Warren and Morris county area of New Jersey. Under strong adult leadership, teams of youth and adults work during the week on various home improvement projects to help support those who are unable to manage the tasks themselves. While the majority of our costs are covered by the participating churches, due to the increasing needs in our area coupled with the rising costs of building materials, we are hoping you will find a way to help support this program. But instead of just another request to send money, we are looking for a different type of approach. We are looking for groups to ‘adopt a project’ and see our results from start to finish.
With this opportunity, you would learn more about the projects that we are undertaking and how we hope to improve a specific family’s home. Our projects consist of building handicapped ramps, replacing roofs, building handicapped bathrooms, various types of home repairs, and major yard renovations to name a few. These projects range in cost each year from several hundred to several thousands of dollars. We would welcome you to visit us at the project site you adopt – or we could chronicle our work in photographs during various stages of the project for you to review after our completion.
