Ministries of the church

Following Jesus is not about showing up for an hour on Sunday morning.  Following Jesus is about worshiping with intention and far more than that.  At Community, we engage in a wide variety of ministries to learn more about God, our neighbors and ourselves.  And we like to kick back, joke around and be creative!  We do a lot, and we’re saving you a place in the circle!

If you’re looking for a Bible Study, we’ve got lots of options.

  • One group meets Monday at 7:00 pm at Fairview UMC on Grafton Rd. just ¼ mile south of the interstate.  The Monday night group explores different topics and books from the bible, starting a new series every six weeks.
  • Another group meets Thursday at 10:00 am at Community UMC.  The Thursday group is currently delving into the women of the Bible.
  • A third group meets the third Wednesday of each month for a program and covered dish lunch afterward.
  • Call Pastor Meredith for more information: 291-0386.

We offer free Swedish weaving classes every Wednesday at 7:00 pm.  What is Swedish weaving?  It involves threading yarn through special cloth to make colorful and beautiful patterns.  More than forty people have come to us for classes.  Watch out—this group is feisty!  Call Helen De Wit for more information, 291-8976

If you prefer fabric to yarn, check out our free quilting class.  The quilters gather every Thursday at 6:00 pm.  After they’ve had their pizza for dinner, the needles and fabrics start flying!  To learn more, contact Barbara Morris, 291-0033.

Our scrapbooking group preserves memories in style!  They meet on the first Sunday of the month from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Our United Methodist Women are currently busy preparing for our 20th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, September 24th.  They’ve invited special musicians, and former pastor Gary Helms is returning to take the pulpit.  During the rest of the year, the UMW participates in book studies and missions.  UMW President Elsie Kelly will introduce you to the group, 291-0303.

If you want to lift up your voice in song, hang out with our choir!  They lead us in worship September through May, and they practice Tuesdays at 6:00 pm.  For more information, call director Jane Kelly, 291-6289.

On September 17, we’re hosting an auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity.  Last year we raised over $1,000 for our local Habitat.  This year, our quilters have been nimble with their needles, so if you’d like a handmade quilt, come prepared to bid for a good cause!

Our church is a scouting hub!  The Cub Scouts meet Thursdays at 6 pm, followed by the Boy Scouts at 7:00 pm.
