From the Pastor -

Active Church Members

What does it mean to be a member of church?  For some it means having your name on a list.  For others it means attending worship during special times of year.  Still for others church membership means having someplace to turn when in distress.  I recently read a book discussing what it means to be an active church member.  It got me to thinking.  Over the next several months I would like to share with you some of my thoughts about church membership.

What does being an active church member mean?  It means sharing more fully in the life of your church.  Active church members choose to:

            •           Worship regularly.

            •           Witness and share God’s love in their lives.

            •           Serve God and neighbor responsibly and faithfully.

            •           Give of their prayers, presence, gifts and service to further  the church’s mission both locally and throughout the world.

But why is it important to be active in the church?  It is important because you are the church.  The church is not the building next to the County Court House. The church is not what the preacher is doing.  The church is people—the combined life of all who believe that Jesus Christ is Savior.  And the church needs you, for without you part of the church is missing.

Next month we will look at the question, “If I am already committed to Christ, why do I have to be committed to a church?”

Grace and Peace,

Bill
