From
the Study
As June approaches, filled with commencements and graduations,
it's a time of looking back over the past year - but also looking forward
to days ahead.
A famous artist was once asked to name his greatest painting.
Surprisingly, he did not name any work that he had painted in some distant
year in the past, nor did he name one that he had painted in some recent
year. Instead, looking forward to the future, he responded By saying,
"My greatest painting is the next one." He was an individual who refused
to be satisfied with his past successes. In stead he was looking forward,
always, to improve upon whatever he had done in the past.
Likewise, as the people of God, we can never afford the
luxury of being satisfied with ourselves as we are. Show me the individuals
who are satisfied with themselves as they are, and I will show you individuals
who are failing. Show me the institution, the nation, or even the church,
that is satisfied with itself as it is and I will show you one mat has
short circuited its own future.
The words of Paul are worth remembering,
"This one thing I do: forgetting what
lies behind
and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on."
May our song echo me song of the saints of old: "I'm
marching on me upward way, new heights I'm gaining every day, still
praying as I'm upward bound. Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."
Be blessed in your continuing journey.

A
Tribute to Freda Wilson
This past
April, Freda Wilson died. About a year ago we received this e-mail from
her and share it as a tribute to her:
If
I Were the Devil
I would
gain control of the most powerful nation in the world.
I would
delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man's effort,
Instead of God's blessings.
I would
promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the
other way around.
I would
dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue.
I would
convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership.
I would
take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was
grounds for a lawsuit.
I would
attack the family, the backbone of any nation.
I would
convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who
call themselves authorities.
I would
persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and the
Bible is for the naive.
I would
dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not
important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional.
Hmmmm....
I (guess if I were the devil, I'd leave things pretty much the
way they are. Will you?

by Paul Harvey)

Ten
Tips for Inviting People to Church
1. Invite
someone you know Ñ it's personal, it's most effective.
2. Pray
about your inviting - the Holy Spirit wants to work through you.
3. invite
persons in time of need Ñ such persons may be open to an invitation.
4. Invite
persons to special services.
5. Invite
persons who don't have a church home Ñaim at non-churched.
6. Invite
people because we are proud of our parish family.
7. Invite
people in your own way Ñ there's no single "right way."
8. Don't
give up. Be gentle, but make sure the welcome mat is out.
9. Invite
people to worship with you. Arrange to bring them.
10. Ask
your pastor for help, The pastor sets aside time to contact persons
by home visits, over the phone, by a mailed note.
Choir
Notes
After June
5th worship service the choir members will have a bit of a break for
several weeks through the summer. As always, our church family enjoys
having special music on summer Sundays. Should you or someone you know
be willing to provide special music, please contact Ruth Vallejo or
Marcia Wonnacott. If the music requires accompaniment by Ruth, she asks
to be informed at least two weeks in advance. Thank you and have a great
summer.
Flood
Buckets Needed for Annual Conference
The East
Ohio Conference Mission Awareness committee is sponsoring a Flood Bucket
Drive at Annual Conference this year. The Mission Awareness Committee
is issuing a challenge that every member of Annual Conference bring
at least one flood bucket with them. The Midwest Distribution Center
will have a truck to carry the buckets back to the distribution center
to be used whenever needed. Pastor Bob. Marcia Wonnacott, and Lillie
Merrill will be attending this year's conference.

Hit
a Home Run for Habitat For Humanity
Won't you
step up to the plate and help Habitat for Humanity? Millard Fuller.
founder of Habitat for Humanity, often speaks about "the Theology of
the Hammer." He believes that one way to express our Christian calling
is to help build affordable housing for those who have no home. Habitat
for Humanity now reaches around the world!
The Outreach
Committee invites you to support Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to
raise $400 by July 11th! Your contributions are greatly appreciated!
