Righteous God, you rule the nations. Guard brave men and women in military service. Give them compassion for those who confront them as enemies. Keep our children from hate that hardens, or from scorekeeping with human lives. Though for a season they must be people of war, let them live for peace, as eager for agreement as for victory. Encourage them as they encourage one another, and never let hard duty separate them from loyalty to your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
O God of peace, calm us, who wait and watch, as events beyond our power and understanding unfold. Deliver us from fear that paralyzes our ability to seek faithfully the ways you would have us be your presence to our friends, our neighbors, and our children. Help us to dwell in your presence one moment at a time and to know that you are ceaselessly at work in our lives and in the world, to bring your reign of peace; in Jesus' name. Amen.
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all people and nations may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and forever. Amen.
