Health Awareness:
This sub-committee strives to bring awareness of various
health concerns such as heart disease, diabetes, prostate
cancer, breast cancer, etc. Articles concerning these
illnesses are written for The Spotlight and pamphlets are
placed on the table in the hallway across from the office.
Blood pressure readings are taken on the fourth Sunday of every
month after the second service.
Mental Health: This sub-committee works to bring awareness of various mental
illnesses to the church and local community. We have
presented several seminars and church services since 2005 that
have highlighted these mental illnesses: Schizophrenia,
Depression, Bipolar, Teenage Depression, Adult Attention Deficit
Disorder, Hoarding, and Alzheimer's. We participated in NAMI Walks and raised over $1800 for NAMI Maryland. Our programs address the impact
on persons with mental illness, their families and caregivers,
the church, and the community and the importance of eliminating
the stigma of mental illness. Clinton United Methodist Church signed a
covenant in March 2005 as a commitment to persons struggling
with mental illness and their families. The General Board
of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church designated
Clinton United Methodist Church as a Caring Community Church in honor of our
faithful ministry to the mentally ill.
Articles concerning mental
illness are written for The Spotlight and pamphlets are
placed on the table in the hallway across from the church
office. Programs on other mental illnesses are being
planned for fall 2007.
