Chapter VII July

Upper Adams United Methodist Parish is a group of seven churches working together to be in effective ministry in Upper Adams and the world. The parish is designed to strengthen each congregation and allow us to be in ministries our individual churches could not do as effectively by themselves while allowing each congregation to be in the ministries each is called to do independently.

Each year the parish publishes an Advent Devotional guide which is written and printed by the members and friends of the parish churches. If you would like a copy of this devotional you may contact us by email to Webmaster

Each summer during the last two Sundays of June and the five Sundays of July we sponsor a concert series in the Amphitheatre located at Oakside Park which is on PA Route 394 a mile East of Biglerville. Seven different Christian musical groups present an evening (Starting at 6:30 p.m.) of music in the great outdoors. A free-will offering is taken to pay the group and help support local charities. Our concerts begin this year on Sunday, June 11th and runs through Sunday, July 23rd, 2006. The concerts are held rain or shine. In case of rain, the concerts are held at Centenary UMC, 99 North Main Street, Biglerville, 1 block north of the traffice light on PA Route 34 (on the right hand side of the road) just before the Upper Adams High School.

Other activities of the UAUMP include a Lenten series with a light meal on the seven Wednesdays of Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday February 9th . Our evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a light fellowship meal provided by the host church. The meal is followed with our Lenten Worship Service at 7:00 p.m. You may come for either or both.

Our Parish Christmas Cantata is held on the second Sunday of December at 10:30 a.m. at Wenksville UMC and 7:00 p.m. at Centenary UMC.

We offer a food pantry for those who need assistance with food and personal care items. The food pantry is open on the 1st Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. and on the 3rd Saturday from 8:00 a.m. through 10:00 a.m. starting in March thru September and people may receive food in an emergency by calling 677-7567.

We have family camping weekends as well as adult and youth retreats. On these weekends we gather at a camp ground on Friday evening as we are able to get there and are assigned to teams. Each team has responsibility for devotions and work together on our weekend theme projects. We have a bonfire and roast hotdogs and marshmallows each evening, followed by devotions. Saturday morning we have breakfast on our own and group devotions at 9:00 a.m. The day is spent working on our projects, playing, walking, napping, swimming, and personal time until 4:00 p.m. when we begin to gather for our community covered dish meal and evening events. Sunday morning we have a community breakfast and after cleaning up, we have our worship service at 10:00 a.m. For more information
