Finance Committee Meeting

September 17, 2008

The Finance Committee meeting of the First United Methodist Church, Clarion, Pennsylvania was held September 17, 2008 in the Church Library.

It was opened with Prayer by James Bolinger, Lay Leader at eight o'clock and ten minutes, P. M.

Those in attendance included Jeffrey D. Foor, Chairman; the Church Treasurer, Sarah Siegel; David Hauser, Church Financial Secretary; Gina DeLair and James Bolinger, Lay Leaders; Reverend Doctor Deryl K. Larsen, Clyde P. Minich, Committee Secretary; Laura Urban, Jean Mills, Valerie Stitt, assistant financial secretary; David Tomeo, Representative to the Board of Trustees; Stuart Estes, Delegate to Annual Conference and Lynn Smith.

David Hauser, financial secretary reported giving coming in nicely, a few have increased their giving and the envelopes are here and will be ready by Thanksgiving. He reported on the Organ Repair fund. Contacted about fifteen people. Has received fifteen thousand five hundred dollars to date and paid eleven thousand dollars. The final bill has not been received yet, but should be between eight and nine thousand dollars. At the present time, there is seven thousand six hundred dollars and the Altar Guild will have two thousand dollars, strictly for the Organ Fund.

Sarah Siegel, treasurer, reported a transfer had to be made to the Property Account in the amount of five thousand, two hundred and sixty-eight dollars to cover expenses. Talked about the apartments -- balcony wood in bad shape; old appliances, taxes and one tenant who has not been paying rent in a timely fashion.

Other accounts by Mrs. Siegel included the Vacation Bible School, Camperships, UMCOR and Pastors "Wrap Around" porch.

It was noted that Trueman W. Mills will be honored with a Conference Level Foundation Award in November.

Jean Mills moved, seconded by Laura Urban and carried that pending the completion of the Organ Repairs, that we move the money from the 1010 account in the amount of one thousand, two hundred forty-eight dollars & eighty-eight cents, the Geary estate in the amount of eighteen thousand, four hundred forty-five dollars and seventy-six cents and the Aharrah estate in the amount of two thousand, three hundred ninety seven dollars and thirty-four cents to clear the debt from the Activity Account.

It was also noted that the Louella McElhattan fund should have read Disciple Study Books and the Pew Cushions in the amount of seventy-five dollars should go back to the Memorial Committee.

Old Business - Reverend Doctor Larsen reported that a luncheon will be held after church on November 9, 2008. Joe Reisinger, a representative from the United Methodist Development Foundation will speak on Stewardship Education.

New Business - Need to start working on the budget for 2009. Jeff will mail letters to the various chairs for budget requests.

In February, the committee should start working on the 2010 budget.

The Audit for 2007 needs to be done quickly. Must be done before a line of credit can be issued.

The hours worked and salary for the Director of Education, Mrs. Jane Elliott-Coul will be doubled in 2009.

David Tomeo gave an update on "Day Care" at the Church on behalf of the Trustees.

The next meeting will be held on November 19, 2008 following the regular mid-week church service.

The meeting was adjourned with Prayer by the Pastor, the Reverend Doctor Larsen at nine o'clock and fifteen minutes, P. M.
