Building Committee Minutes

November 4, 2008

Members present: Howard Rhoades, Peggy Jo Staab, Wade DeLair, Dale Fiscus, Willie Wilson, Trueman Mills, and Rev. Larson. Trustee Janet Ruslavage. Lay Leaders Jim Bolinger and Gina Delair.

Minutes for October 21, 2008 were read. Approved.

Howard gave an update on the meetings with the Trustees and Church Council on the issue of Day Care. They decided to keep the Day Care as a mission of the church. Day Care will be a part of the Master Plan either to relocate off site or in the perimeter of the church area. Howard contacted Chris with this information, along with two concerns from the last meeting. One being the possibility of a Multipurpose facility and second, the identification of the Ed. building, cosmetic look of possible vinyl stone. Howard also ask Chris to review the sanctuary costs for total completion, which would address plastering, insulation, etc. (we have cost for rearranging the sanctuary only).

Chris took over and said he called this meeting for some direction with the Day Care. We had an open discussion on using the area of the Blue house, types of buildings and placement of playground. The Blue house area is 4,500 sq. ft and Chris put together a Day Care Center 3,000 sq. ft. at a cost of $469,500. He gave us several handouts on costs for Day Care Center, New Building and Gym (Multipurpose Family Center).

Then we discussed different ideas with the old parsonage. Chris stated if we tear down the parsonage, rework the footprint (expand on two sides), this would give the space to Day Care in the Basement and part of the first floor. Then we could use the other half for the Administrative Offices. He may work the Towers inside and keep the old stairway in the Ed. Building.

We talked about the Master Plan, phases items could be completed, usage of the other buildings on site, and parking. Chris said we need to include our ideas into the Master Plan so we are not redoing projects.

Chris will take ideas we discussed and rework the footprint of a new building replacing the parsonage for the next meeting.

It was decided our next meeting will December 16, 2008 at 6:30. We will not hold the meeting as scheduled on November 18, 2008.
