This is about taking stock, doing an inventory, and
measuring up. As I think about measuring, I know if I want a half cup
of milk for a recipe, I have to measure up to the top of the liquid.
I also learned some time ago that if I wanted to measure the grain in
a bin, I had to measure the empty space in order to deter-mine how full
the bin was; sort of measure down.
I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch
to say that we use some of the same measuring techniques in assessing
our spiritual life. It helps to know how far we have come (measuring up)
and also to know how far we have to go (measuring down).
We will attempt to do some of that measuring at our next Kalvesta Night. It will
be about a year since we sat down with Carl Ellis and did some self-examination
as a church and he will be with us on September 21st at 5 p.m. to help us measure
our progress. A year ago, we identified some of the positives of our church.
We also determined to strengthen our church through prayer, invitation and fellowship.
In order to get an accurate measure, it seems to me we need some input from everyone.
It would be great if you could join us. Our traditional food and fellowship will
follow with a carry-in supper.
