     FROM OUR PASTOR…

Dear Friends,

A glorious summer day! The humidity is down, and we are having just a hint of the new season just around the corner.  Fall is on its way! I have spoken about the cross in our outside chapel before, and it is time once again.

The cross in the woods is such a good metaphor for our lives.  Since we have had the new parking lot, most mornings I walk through the chapel to come over to church from home. I stop at the cross and pray, and leave the chapel praying, “…for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.” It gives me such a feeling of God being in charge and of God having the glory.

Often on the way home for lunch, I walk right by that cross, without even a pause. Coming back from lunch, sometimes I pause, and sometimes I don’t.  Sometimes I walk through the chapel, and sometimes I walk along the playground, and so don’t go near the chapel.  And yet, even on those times, I look for that cross through the woods. I can almost always find it.

A cross which is a reminder of Christ being in my life. A cross which reminds me that Christ is now with God and in control.  And yet, how often are our lives like my walk to and from work. We start the day, thinking about Christ in our lives, and maybe giving the control to God. By the time we get to lunch time, we kind of ignore the fact that Christ is with us and just keep walking.

There are times when we go the easier and shorter way, which often means, we are avoiding that cross, maybe avoiding what Christ would have us do! You know, those times we would prefer entertainment (like the playground) to a relationship with Christ.

But please remember, always, Christ is waiting for you, to be with you and to help you know God’s love.  Come into fall, knowing Christ is with you any time you want or need. Turn to Christ often!

                                                                                                Christ’s love to you,

                                                                                                Pastor Shelley
