A characterization of John Wesley:

"Wesley's strong-mindedness was something of a family trait; ...caution and faintheartedness had been bred out of him; ...he was constitutionally incapable of doing anything by half.... [He was] hard- driving, yet also sensitive; intense, yet also patient; detached, yet also charming; self-disciplined, yet also intensely emotional; opinionated, yet also curious; open to counsel, yet impervious to pressure; brusque with bad faith, yet also tolerant of contrary opinions. This "character" once identified, is discernible in every aspect and context of his entire career."
