Tuning up with our Director of Music Ministry
Carol Lamica
Interview by: Gina Clef, Staff Writer
G. Clef : Have you always been involved with music?
Carol: Yes! I grew up in a family of musicians and am also employed as a music educator. My children love music, and it is something we all enjoy together.
G. Clef : What brought you to Faith United Methodist Church?
Carol : A close friend, Joanne, told me about her church. I began attending and quickly found a friendly, family-centered church. My family and I quickly felt like we were a part of a special family as well in this church. When the Choir Director position became vacant, it seemed like this was just where I was meant to be!
G. Clef : Since you grew up in a traditional hymn-singing, casserole-bringing United Methodist Church, can you tell us your favorite hymn and your favorite church dinner casserole?
Carol: That is a tough one! How do you choose a favorite casserole when there is such a variety and I have so many favorites! I think Cheesy Potatoes are my all-time favorite church dinner casserole, and my top 3 songs (again, VERY hard to choose I am a music person, you know!) are : How Great Thou Art, Precious Lord, and Amazing Grace.
G. Clef : What is your favorite part of being the Director of Music Ministry?
Carol: Rehearsing with the choir on Thursday nights. (Did you get that? That is THURSDAYS at 7:30, no strings attached, just come, sing and have fun!)
G. Clef : What have you found to be the most challenging aspect of this position?
Carol: Choosing music that is meaningful to the service.
G. Clef : Finally, if you could make one wish for the music program at Faith UMC, what would it be?
Carol: Well, we have such a great time at choir, and in the rest of our involvement with the congregation, I would like to invite even more people to become involved with choir and any other music opportunities at Faith UMC. You don not have to know how to read music, and even if you think you can not carry a tune, I bet you can!! So PLEASE if you are a shower-singer, car-singer, or vacuum-cleaner-tube-singer, check out our choir! We have summer music opportunities too, so PLEASE- join us! You will be part of a really fantastic group!
