CHRIST UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
Register now
for the United Methodist Women’s
School of Christian Mission to be held at Bethune Cookman University
in Daytona Beach. The theme for the school is “Living in Sacred
Harmony.” The three mission studies are “I Believe in Jesus”,
“Israel and Palestine”, and “Giving Our Hearts Away: Native American
Survival.” Everyone is invited to participate: children, youth, men,
and women. Information packets with details about each class and the
instructors are available on the table in the Narthex. Dates are
July 22 – 25 or July 25 - 27.
Our own Helen Ellis is Dean of the School and Jackie Bridges is an
instructor for the weekend Native American session. If you have
questions, contact Helen Ellis, Jackie Bridges, or Amy Marcinkus.
Saturday, June 21, 2008,
Christ UMW will host a special North Central District Event—“UMW Goes
Back to School.” This time will be used to take a look at public
education in Florida and how UMW can get involved. UMW units
throughout our district have been invited. Anyone from Christ UM
Church who is interested is invited to attend. Registration begins at
9 a.m. A brown bag luncheon will begin at noon. Beverages and
dessert will be provided. Amy Marcinkus will be leading the event.
Perkins Restaurant South of Leesburg
on 27 and Captain Bell’s north on 27/441 are the two eating places
chosen for our summer gatherings in place of regular UMW meetings.
Plan to arrive at the church by 6 p.m. to carpool or just meet at the
restaurant before 6:30 p.m. to enjoy this time of conversation and
caring. All women of the church are invited to Perkins on June
16 and to Captain Bell’s on July 21
even if you do not regularly attend our UMW meetings. Mark your
calendars now.
Thank you to everyone who supported
UMW sponsored meals after worship services. Many of you donated food,
helped with set up and clean up. Thank you! UMW hopes you have
enjoyed the food and good fellowship and will mark your calendar to
join us September 21, 2008, for our next meal.
Ladies, remember to finish your
Reading Program Plan and give your information to Carol Miner by July
25. Happy reading!
If you would like to be a “Book
Buddy” at Carver Heights Ministries during August, sign up sheets are
available on the table in the Narthex. You will read with two
different children. This helps give them a jumpstart on school.
Carver Heights Ministries is a local ministry that is now one of the
Florida Conference’s Advance Specials.
The UMW Fall Rummage Sale is
scheduled for November 1. This sale is in place of the Bazaar or Fall
Festival that UMW has had in the past. Start saving clothes, used
holiday decorations, books, jewelry, scarves, belts, purses,
household items, etc. Donations will be accepted in October.
Specific details will be provided in future newsletters and bulletins.
Anyone willing to help with the Rummage Sale or who has ideas should
contact Martha Welling.
The Mother/Daughter/Friend luncheon
was a delightful event—almost eighty ladies attended. Thank you to
Jackie Bridges and Wendy Fletcher for preparing the program and food.
Thank you to Carol Woodley for preparing place cards and thank you to
Bill Tasker, Ken Taylor, and David Bridges for serving.
On May 2, 2008, Marjorie Faircloth, Sandy Coval, and Martha Welling
attended Church Women United’s Friendship Day at St. James Episcopal
Church in Leesburg. The next Church Women United of Lake County
meeting will be held November 7 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
