I
do. My life seems to flow in peaks and valleys. I am either, on the go
all the time,
or
there are days when there is nothing in particular to do. The last three
months have
been
very, very busy with many opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.
In
these times I am tempted to focus more on the urgent, or what “needs” to
be done
and
focus less on my personal time before the Lord.
Two things help me maintain balance in my life during these times.
The
first is from lessons I learned in the book, “7 Habits of Highly Effective
People”
by
Stephen Covey. Habit number three is, “Put First Things First.” This habit
is
about
learning to distinguish between those things, which are, urgent, and those
things,
which
are important. Personal time cultivating our relationship with the Lord
is as important
as
the air we breathe. But, like the line in that great hymn of the church,
“Come, Thou
Font
of Every Blessing”, I sing, “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to
leave the God
I
love;” Remembering Covey’s habit number 3 helps me sing the rest of that
line, “here’s
my
heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.”
The
second thing that helps me to stay in balance is including the song, “Be
Magnified”
in
my personal worship time. (Hosanna Music, CD “{Be Magnified”.) Maybe
you also
will
identify with these lyrics:
(1)
“I have made You Too small in my eyes O Lord forgive me
And
I have believed in a lie That you were unable To help me
But
now O Lord I see my wrong
Heal
my heart
And
show Yourself strong
And
in my eyes and in with my song
O
Lord be magnified
O
Lord be magnified
Chorus:
Be
magnified O Lord
You
are highly exhalted
And
there is nothing
You
can’t do
O
Lord my eyes are on You
Be
magnified O Lord be magnified
(2)
I have leaned On the wisdom of men
O
Lord forgive me
And
I have responded to them
Instead
of Your light And Your mercy
But
now O Lord I see my wrong
Heal
my heart
And
show Yourself strong
And
in my eyes and in with my song
O
Lord be magnified
O
Lord be magnified”
