First
United Methodist Church
PASTOR'S
PERSPECTIVE:
Greetings
in the name of the Resurrected Jesus Christ who lives and reigns forever and
forever. I hope and pray that you
experienced the power of the resurrected Lord during the Easter celebrations at
our church gatherings over the past weeks.
I give thanks to God every time I think of the ways you helped to make
God's love real during the Easter season.
God is truly blessing us with so many talented people who are willing to
share their gifts with our church family.
I believe prayer is at the heart of the
Christian life. I also believe one of
the greatest strengths of our church is prayer. We have seen God's love made
real in such a powerful way through the gift of prayer. I want to continue to build on this gift God
has given us. One of the ways we can
continue to strengthen our community prayer life is through praying as a church
family on Sunday evenings.
I want to spend a moment telling you about
some of the changes we have made in our Sunday evening worship service. We are changing the service to allow more
time for prayer. The format will be to
come together and sing hymns to God and then have a brief sermon, followed by
an extended time of prayer. We will be
praying for people who have shared with us a desire for our church to pray for
them. We also will be praying for the
different ministry areas of our church and for each member of our church family
by name. Those who come will be given
the opportunity to pray. You will be
given a written prayer guide to assist you in praying for a fellow church
family member by name if you chose to pray. You don't have to pray if you
attend.
On the first Sunday night of each month, we
will have a service of prayer for healing, accompanied by the anointing with
oil at the altar rail. We will be
using the order of service found in the United Methodist Book of Worship. If you have a friend or family member that
desires the prayers of the church for healing of the body, mind or soul this
would be a wonderful time to invite them to come for special prayer.
If
you have any suggestions, please feel free to discuss them with me. Again, thank you for your prayers and I'll
see you at the church on the hill where God's love is made real.
