St. Peters Luthern Church, where 650 people were killed in 1990

Conditions have improved in Liberia since the 1997 elections, but no one should repress the memory of recent mass killings.  These memories insist that the children at the Village be protected.

Upon its grand opening, the Village will be protected by a five or six man security team of former police officers and individuals with special training.

Liberian law prohibits any unit other than the army from carrying firearms--even the police are unarmed.  Consequently, the security team must (until we successfully lobby the Government to overturn this criminally stupid law) be equipped with every remaining type of equipment; the team must intimidate potential intruders and overwhelm or destroy real intruders.

The team members need technology to communicate with each other and to detect intruders.   In addition, the team should have an intimidating force of guard dogs.  And to attract people of the highest caliber to the work, the guards should be well paid.

By contributing to the fund described in the "contribute" category, you will help to achieve good security at the Village.  If you would like your entire contribution to go towards security, write to club-orphan@jmu.edu.
