●"From the Missions and Social Concerns Team: You are invited to link yourself to a source of information and action that is easy and important stewardship of your influence. United Methodists have many sources but here are two that the Missions and Social Concerns Group thinks that all of us who have email might like to receive regular information from about the missions and advocacy opportunities through which we can make a difference in our world:

1.  We suggest you visit:  www.umc-gbcs.org which is the General Board of Church and Society. In the lower right is "UM Power" section with a place to click on "Take Action" or "Sign up for UM Power"  These will contact you by email with suggested actions or with information.  You can choose your level of desired information.

2.  We suggest you visit: http://new.gbgm-umc.org/connections/lists  which is the General Board of Global Ministries.  This gives you a choice of information you can receive regularly.  We suggest you might, at least, sign up for UMCOR Hotline, which is United Methodist Committee on Relief which responds to instant needs around the world.  You can choose the ones that interest you.

"To whom much has been given, of them much is required," (Luke 12:48).  Let us use all that we have including our information and influence "for the transformation of the world," as United Methodist goals state is our purpose."

●Explorers Adult Group: On the first Sunday in September, Faith and Politics will be the theme for a series of explorations in the Explorers Adult Group, meeting in Room A at 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Sundays.  Len Mecca, Carolyn Hardin Engelhardt, and Sergio Deganis coordinate the group's interactions.  Here are some "quotable quotes" from the resources that will get group participants thinking about the theme: •••Because we are influenced by the power of evil, which expresses itself both in the world and within ourselves, structures and laws are necessary. •••According to scripture, good government promotes justice and righteousness and upholds the needs of the poor and vulnerable.•••The highest allegiance of the Christian is to God. This means that, at times, we will be critical of government policies. •••Because Christians' primary commitment is to Jesus Christ, they are able to respond to God's call to serve others with confidence and energy. One way to avoid the temptation to give in to cynicism is to become actively involved in the governmental process. •••It (politics) is a way of living out the commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves.

You are invited to be a part of the explorations on any Sunday or every Sunday.  You don't have to have any background or any particular viewpoint.  This is a group for exploration, interaction, and personal growth in faith.  The coordinators look forward to welcoming YOU!

●CUMC Fundraising: Stop & Shop Gift Cards:  Available in denominations of $25, $50, and $100.  Use them like cash.  The church receives 5% from every $5,000 worth of gift cards purchased. See Jenn or Jean Roeder in Fellowship Hall to purchase.

●Updated Member listings available:  Pick up a current copy to have for future reference from the table just outside the church office in the folder labeled “MEMBER LISTING” .
