WEDDING POLICY
Because we
believe marriage is a covenant
established by God, we are happy to
offer the facilities of our church to those
who want their marriage to be a sacred and
memorable event. We affirm your desire to be
married in the church. We assume you are
making this choice because you want your
wedding to have Christian meaning as well as
civil status. We hope your ceremony will be
a lovely event filled with beauty, purpose
and lasting significance. We pray God’s
blessing upon you.
The best
guideline as to what is “appropriate or
inappropriate” in a church wedding is to
remember that a church wedding is a time of
worship. A good question to ask yourselves
as you plan your wedding is this: “Does it
fit into a worship service?”
PLANNING YOUR WEDDING
CLEAR
THE DATE
As soon
as possible, the date and time of the
wedding must be cleared with the pastor.
CONTACT THE MINISTER
The
pastor requires time with all couples to
personally meet for premarital counseling
and to go over the plans of the wedding
itself. There will be no charge to active
church members. For non-members, the clergy
fee is $150 and covers a minimum of three
one-hour premarital counseling sessions, the
rehearsal and the wedding service.
Normally,
all weddings in the church are performed by
the current pastor. If you have an
exception to this policy, it must be
discussed with the pastor. If approved, the
visiting pastor should be given a copy of
this policy.
SCHEDULE OF FEES
A
donation of $150.00 is requested from
non-members to cover church building use,
utilities, and the custodian. A donation is
gratefully accepted from active church
members. All fees are the obligation of the
bride and groom and may be paid to the
pastor at the rehearsal. Checks for clergy
should be made out to the individuals
involved; building use fees are payable to
the Chebeague UMC.
Use of
the Parish House for reception or rehearsal
dinner – see Parish House Policy.
MISCELLANEOUS
Alcoholic
beverages and smoking are not permitted on
church properties at any time.
Nothing
may be thrown inside the church. (If
throwing something seems necessary, birdseed
may be thrown outside the church.)
Sanctuary furnishings are not to be moved or
removed without the permission of the pastor
or the pastor’s
designee.
All music
should be discussed with the pastor. We can
recommend a pianist or organist. Fees will
need to be privately arranged with the
individual.
