Mission Statement

The ministry of missions at Chapel Hill UMC takes on many forms. We support missionaries and world missions through approximately a dozen conference and denominational Special Sunday Offerings throughout the year. A substantial portion of our annual Ministry Shares given to the West Michigan Annual Conference also goes to missions and Church World Service. We also, support missions and projects within Michigan, as well as local agencies and projects within Berrien County, MI through special or love offerings.

Another way that we support missions is through “hands on” projects like the CROP WALK to combat hunger locally and world wide. We support the United Methodist Committee on Relief, better known as UMCOR, through special offerings and projects like flood buckets and various kits to help provide immediate and sustained help when disaster strikes areas of our country and throughout the world. We collect needed items for our local Safe Shelter, support Senior Nutrition meals with our monthly hunger offering, and other agencies as the needs arise.

One of our local mission commitments is to the HHUM project, which stands for Harbor Harvest Urban Ministries and is housed at Peace Temple UMC, in Benton Harbor, MI. Sodus Chapel Hill and four other area United Methodist churches are member churches. Each of the member churches has three board members, provides financial support, and recruits volunteers for the HHUM programs. Chapel Hill has, and continues to provide, volunteers in the Peace Partners Mentoring Program.

Chapel Hill also supports local, regional and world missionaries and/or projects through profits from our Annual Chapel Hill Arts & Craft Show. Profits from the past 27 years of Shows have totaled over $353,000.00. To learn more about our Arts & Crafts Show visit our link. The following is a list of missionaries, projects and agencies that benefited from our 2006 Show.

Delivery of PETS to a Village near Lusaka

The photos (above) show the delivery of a child size PET to 8 year old Marriot and his mother. Marriot was anxious to begin using his PET and he will soon gain enough upper body strength to move about on his own. His mother said that he wants very badly to be able to go to school. Having the PET provides him the freedom of mobility that will allow him to realize that dream. The PET is also a symbol to the recipients of God's love for them.

They are no longer seen by themselves or members of their community as cursed; they are loved by God! Our financial support and prayers make this possible. It will be wonderful to see what Marriot does with his life.

Please keep him and his mother in your prayers. Consider supporting and praying for this mission project. To learn more about PET, click here: http://www.gbgm-umc.org/newlife-zambia/pet_ministry.htm
