Creating a warmer, drier, safer home for those in need |
What is ASP?
The Appalachian Service Project (ASP) is a relational Christian housing ministry that works to make housing for central Appalachia warmer, safer, and drier. We make changes in the living conditions of the families we serve, but the impact of the relationships we build with the families, other volunteers, and the staff is far reaching. Click here for more details about the Appalachian Service Project
The congregation at Clarks Green UMC has been supporting the Appalachian Service Project for twelve years. Our volunteer contingent has grown year by year. In recent years more than forty youth and adult volunteers from CGUMC and other churches in our community have made the week long trip to help those less fortunate. Volunteers have come from Epiphany Episcopal, Clarks Summit UMC, Chinchilla UMC, First Presbyterian of Clarks Summit, Our Lady of the Snows and St. Gregory’s. ASP youth & adult volunteers meet every second Sunday evening of the month at 7:00 PM at the Clarks Green Church

2008 Theme: "Not by force, nor by strength but by my spirit"
The ASP volunteers wish to thank everyone for their support. We have reached our monetary goal - any left over funds will be used for next year.
All the volunteers are looking forward to our workweek in Talcott (Summers County), WV. We will be staying at the Talcott Elementary school and have been told we will have air conditioned classrooms to sleep in and hot water (as long as it lasts). This is the fourth year ASP has used this location: 1999, 2001 and 2003.
Because of Pastor Lori's reassignment we need one more adult to go with us. Please let Jeanette or Sue know if you are interested. This is a great opportunity to work with our youth.
The ASP overnight training session was a good experience. The youth volunteers participated in sensitivity training on Friday night. On Saturday everyone participated in building chairs, tables and loveseats, working as teams and learning how to handle power tools, etc.
Stock Certificates are still available if you wish to be part of this years' experience. You will receive a letter from one of our volunteers and two tickets to the Spaghetti Dinner on September 14th.
