Meet Russell
Hart
Russell M. Hart
is a native North Dakotan who has spent more than forty years as a
ministerial
member of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist
Church. He served parishes in Altoona, suburban Harrisburg and York
before becoming Director of the Center For Spiritual Formation in l995.
He and his wife Dorene have been married since 1969. Their daughter
Linda lives in Florida.
Dr. Hart received
a Ph. B. degree in l966 from the University of North Dakota, a M. Div.
From Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington D.C., in 1970 and a D.Min.
from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, in 1979. In 1984 he
perceived a call to become an iconographer and subsequently received
formal training at Mt. Angel Abbey, Oregon, from Charles Rhorbacher, in
1989, and l'Ecole Russe de St. George, Meudon, France, from Egon
Sendler (Pere Igor), in 1991.
Russell Has
authored three books, two of which relate directly with iconography,
and one concerning the mystic way:

Dr. Hart is a
contributor to the Upper Room
Dictionary
of Christian Spiritual Formation
and A
Guide To Prayer For All Who Seek God. He is also on the
faculty of the Center's
Ministry
of Spiritual Direction program and its Lay Seminary. He also
leads spiritual retreats and local church consultations throughout the
Northeast.
