DINING WITH DIGNITY......our Meals Ministry

Every Monday and Thursday evening we serve full course meals to downtown homeless and low income residents.  Our volunteers (over 1000 in 1998) come mostly from the neighborhood but also from Gonzaga University, various high schools, churches, civic groups and companies.  We have blended middle class folks with folks mired in poverty for the mutual benefit of both.
We believe that four keys of mental health are:
1.) TO LOVE:  we focus on building relationships of trust and respect.
2.) TO WORK: we offer meaningful work which builds up the commonwealth of all.
3.) TO PLAY:  in the spring we do softball;  in the winter we do volleyball;  we offer a pool table, foosball, air hockey and ping pong.  We believe the purpose of life is JOY!  We try to build-in moments of re-creation.
4.) TO COMMUNE:  We lift up the truth that God wants nothing more for us than our well being.  We attempt to role model this through our practice of hospitality.  No need to talk about God unless we ourselves are willing to let God's love flow through us.
