Several of our youth had a wonderful week at church camp
in Beersheba this Summer. Our campers enjoyed many activities during the week,
including canoeing, singing, games, and making new friends. We were also able to
personally experience one of the results of the Together We Can campaign during our stay at
Beersheba Springs. We used the first of the new bath facilities being built there, and we
saw construction underway on the new lodge.
What a wonderful blessing to see our mission projects come to completion and realize how
deeply we have affected another person's life! Our mission aries that went to
Hendersonville, NC worked hard and gave much of themselves. Our assignment was to help
finish the inside of a home with walls and paint. For 9 years the homeowner, following a
debilitating back injury, had waited for someone to help him complete a
remodel/addition he had begun himself. In that time he had lived with exposed electrical
lines, insulation and studs. He was so impressed that teenagers with a little adult help
could hang drywall, mud, sand, and paint. We completed 4 rooms in 3 days.
We also spent a day at a therapeutic horse ranch. The boys built the back wall of a barn
while the girls cleaned out the barn and created stalls for the horses. In the coming
weeks, handicapped children will come to the ranch for
therapeutic riding lessons. We were given a tour of the ranch, and the horses were very
interested in sharing our picnic lunch.
As always, we brought home many pictures and a video of all the new friends we made and
the work we shared After all, learning to work together and share Christian service and
fellowship was the enriching part of a mission trip. Again, we thank our
churches for your continued support that enabled us to offer this mission experience.
