The Cedar Key United Methodist Church is the oldest congregation on the island, having been founded in 1855. Its mission is to proclaim God's love to this community and around the world.

The present church structure was built in 1889. From 1999 to 2001 eleven stained glass windows were installed which were designed by local high school students and made by island craftsman Don Joyce. Each window depicts a biblical scene on the upper panel and a related Cedar Key scene on the lower panel.

We invite you to worship with us, whether you live in the area or are just visiting our island for a brief time.

Thought for the week

This past week in our study of                               Ezra/Nehemiah we read of how the Jews rediscovered the Law through the priest Ezra. Their reaction to hearing the Law, perhaps for the first time, was profound sorrow and mourning for their living so long outside of the Law of God. Ezra implored them not to sorrow and weep for their past sin but to rejoice for the recovery of that special relationship with God they had neglected, “for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Joy is what God intends for us through the gift of God’s Word. Sure, the Word convinces us of our sin and separateness from God, calls upon us to repent and change our lives but the goal of the Christian life and the hope of God is for us to have joy. Just as the joy of Easter follows the somber days of Lent, joy is the intended outcome for all Christian practices and worship and living.
Cast off your sorrow and your guilt. Put away your hurt and anger. God’s will for you is joy.
