Pastor's Message

Welcome to Charlton City United Methodist Church. We are happy that you have paid a visit to our web site.

We are a suburban church located on five and a 1/2 acres at 74 Stafford Street, Charlton, the former home of the Woodlot Campground. We built a new building which was dedicated in 2005.

We have a membership of about 280, with many more people who see us as their church, especially in time of crisis, baptisms, weddings, holidays, and funerals. we are happy to serve all in the name of Jesus Christ our risen Lord and Savior.

We have two worship services on Sunday mornings, 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with church school at 9:00 a.m. for all ages. We have youth group at 6:00 p.m. for youth of all ages.

We have an active United Methodist Women's Group and an active United Methodist Men's Group.

Baptisms

Baptisms are done very so often when they are requested. In the United Methodist Church, we baptize by sprinkling, by pouring, and by immersion. We baptize infants and children, youth, and adults after a time of instruction about the nature of baptism. Baptisms take place in the worship service setting as the congregation promises to provide a program of Christian education and nurture for each person who is baptized.

Once baptized, the persons are considered baptized members of Charlton City United Methodist Church.

Youth who have been baptized are eligible for confirmation at ages of 13 to 14 years old.

Confirmation

A confirmation class is organized and held about every two years. It consists of classes for 13 weeks in winter and spring about the nature of the Christian Faith, the Bible, and many parts of the United Methodist Church. It is usually held on Sunday afternoons and ends with a light supper, which is followed by youth group.

Membership

Membership classes are held as needed for those who are interested in becoming members of Charlton City United Methodist Church. There are three classes which are held, which go over the basic learnings of the United Methodist Church. During these sessions, members get to know each other, and an interest inventory is taken to determine the interests and talents of the new members. A fact sheet about the church is also distributed to new members.

Weddings

The pastor is available for weddings at the church, chapel, or another location. Couples should book weddings far enough in advance so that planning can be done and an inventory can be taken by the couple. This costs $35.00, which is sent to Illinois for scoring after the couple completes the inventory. The next interview is spent going over the strengths and growth areas of the couple. In no way is the inventory an indication of a happy marriage. it is merely a tool for use in the counseling sessions. The wedding fees are as follows:
