Missions

Local Missions
Christ's Church members have a broad based view of mission work. We support the United Methodist and Presbyterian Churchs' We also are involved in mission work on a local level. Missions is defined as activities/time spent in service to others. Some of the local area missions and service works are given below.

  • Supporting the Monmouth/Independence Ella Curran Food Bank with staff, donation of food and fundraising events to purchase food products.
  • Activities in support of the local Meals on Wheels program.
  • Gathering donated school supplies together for the local elementary schools at the beginning of each school year.
  • Organizing and working with a low cost dental clinic for our community's children.
  • Stephen's Ministry
We are a Stephen's Ministry church. Stephen's Ministry is a one on one caring partnership of emotional support, prayer and care for those struggling with illness, personal hardships, or tough situations who would like someone to talk with. Various members of our church have been trained in the Stephen's Ministry program to assist you. If you are interested in talking with a Stephen's Minister, please contact the church office (503-838-1724).

Christ's Church Away Missions
Our congregation supports away missions; with many members contributing time to do physical work in communities in need. The congregation raises funds in support of these missions. Each participating member may also contribute his or her own travel expenses. Often the accomodations are very basic, sleeping in tents is common
Mission teams have traveled

  • to the southern Mississippi, New Orleans area numberous times to rebuild homes for Katrina Hurricane victims
  • to Mexico to work with an orphanage that needed a new building
  • to Kenya to work with children with AIDS in the construction of shelters
  • to San Francisco to work in a homeless shelter and soup kitchen
  • to Woodburn, Oregon to help with a Hispanic ministry that needed building repair
  • to Dundee, Oregon to help with painting and repairing a church
  • to Ukraine to help a young church build its new church building and to teach church organizational skills
  • to Alaska to help an existing church expand its church building.

Along with the physical labor involved in these trips, the mission team members also bring emotional support to the people that they serve. They do this by listening to the concerns of the people they are helping, meeting spoken needs with resources as possible, and offering friendship and caring to those we mission to. All peoples are welcome on these life changing trips.
