Continuing education is listening as others speak,
questioning and piecing the answers and questions together.

Christ's Chruch offers several opportunities for study and discussion on a variety of subjects at a variety of times with a variety of persons.

Sunday Morning Bible Study in a traditional format of reading through the Bible and discussing and sharing one's ideas and understandings meets every Sunday morning at 9:30 am at the church. Beginning Feb. 10th, Beth Ritchey will lead us in a Lenten study in the Church Library. Join us for this excellent series.

The Thursday evening discussion group is studying the book Beyond Belief, by Elaine Pagels. Meetings are at 7:00 pm. Newcomers are welcome. Call Bev for more details. 503-838-1172.

Over a cup of coffee and a stack of flapjacks a group of lay members, led by our pastor Rev. James Simmons, discusses the lectionary for the upcoming Sunday. The Lectionary Group meets for breakfast Wednesday mornings at 8 o'clock at Andy's Cafe in Independence.

Christ's Church Women have two study groups, one which meets as Mary Smiley Circle in the afternoon at 1:00 pm on the first Wednesday of the month, in the church library. Currently they are studying the Presbyterian Womens' Bible Study book called Above and Beyond-Hearing God's Call in Jonah and Ruth. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Jo Ann at 503-838-6603.

The other study group, an Evening Circle, is studying "Creating Interfaith Community" - exploring ways in which all the major faith communities can find common ground, and ways to appreciate and learn from each other. They meet at 7:30 on the third Monday in members' homes. Call 503-838-4177 for location.

Through the close connection with the Fellowship House one can become involved in discussion groups. Rev. Ann Bowersox welcomes students to join her in the Student Union for Meet Me at the Summit, an informal time of conversation and 'just checking in'. Ann buys the coffee for this occasion Tuesdays from 10:00 - 11:30 am.
Wednesday nights, 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Rev. Bowersox meets with students at St. Hilda's for Bible Study, Worship, and Fellowship. Call 503-838-6301 for details about either of these gatherings.

Friendship Potlucks are a relaxing time where we eat, sing, laugh, and play together. The location is the basement of the church. Please bring a dish to share, and a laugh and a song! The first potluck in 2008 will be January the 29th at 6:30 pm

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is conducted every summer with a variety of themes. Typically it's in the evenings for a week in July or August. Contact the church office for details as the summer approaches. All are welcome and when the weather favors the participants, many of the activities are in the beautiful Oregon outdoors.
