Sacraments: Baptism &
Communion
In the United Methodist Church children are baptized as infants. Infant baptism is reminder of God's grace and acceptance of us which is not dependent upon our works. In baptism parents promise to raise the child in a Christian home and the church promises to nurture and sustain children in their Christian walk. Children baptized in other denominations are fully received and do not need to be re-baptized.
All people, regardless of age and church affiliation, are welcome to partake in Holy Communion.
Confirmation
Confirmation classes with the pastor are held for seventh graders on Wednesdays, after school, October through April. Confirmation is an investigation of the meaning of a discipleship commitment. Seventh-grade youth (and any older youth who have not been confirmed) are invited to attend classes with the pastor. Confirmation Sunday is the culmination of these classes and is a reaffirmation of one's commitment to follow Christ and become a full member of the congregation.
Nursery
Children are always welcome in worship. An adult-supervised nursery is available during Sunday School and Sunday worship for children through Kindergarten. A "cry-room" is also available to those who would like to use it. It is located on the third floor, overlooking the sanctuary.
Children
During the Sunday worship service children are invited to come forward for a special time, the children's message, with the pastor. Activity packets are available to children as they enter the sanctuary. Each packet contains a book, crayons, pencil, pipe-cleaner, and a bulletin which relates to the scripture for the day. During the summer months, children, K-3rd grade are invited to a special learning time following the children's message. Children entering third grade are given Bibles from the congregation. Special classes are offered to help them use and understand the Bible.
Church Membership
Church membership comes through profession of faith or transfer of membership from another congregation. Persons wishing to join the church are encouraged to come forward during worship to be welcomed by the congregation. Persons joining the church are asked to faithfully participate in the ministries of the church by prayers, presence, gifts, and service.
