Welcome to Care Bexar Emmaus.
The Walk to
Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program to empower leaders in the
local church to be the hands and feet of Christ.
It encourages us to
live a
lifestyle of prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.
The Walk to Emmaus is a “once in a lifetime experience.”
Those who have been on a Walk gather on a regular basis
for worship and communion.
These Emmaus Gatherings remind us of our call to serve
Christ by serving others.
The Walk to Emmaus gets its name from the story in Luke (chapter
24, verses 13 through 34) that tells of the first Easter
afternoon when the risen Christ appeared to two disciples who
were walking together on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus.
Today’s Walk to Emmaus is not a physical walk or a quiet
retreat. The Emmaus
Walk is a 72-hour short course in Christianity which includes
fifteen talks by lay and clergy on God's grace, Christian
discipleship, and what it means to be the church.
The time together also includes small group discussions,
music, fellowship, prayer and meditation, special worship, and
Holy Communion. The
Walk to Emmaus is administered by the United Methodist Church,
through The Upper Room, but all walks are ecumenical.
A similar program called
Chrysalis is also
available for youth.
Local Emmaus groups all around the world sponsor walks.
All
are welcome
in Emmaus. You are
invited to consider going on your own “Walk to Emmaus” should
you feel led to do so.
Chrysalis Flights for youth are available in the summer.
If you are interested in more information about a Walk to
Emmaus or a Chrysalis Flight, please e-mail Avis Moore at
avismoor@swbell.net.
We are pilgrims on a journey and we invite you to join
us.
