Capitol Hill United Methodist Church has many small group activities. We invite you to join us as we share our gifts through fellowship and service. Check the event calendar to see when these groups meet.

CHUM Book Group

The CHUM Book Group meets every month to discuss a new book and enjoy good food and conversation. Check the calendar to see what the group is reading now. Contact Sue Marullo if you are interested in this group or just show up for the next meeting.

CHUM Women

Please join us for one Monday night a month, when Capitol Hill United Methodist (CHUM) Women discuss church and secular topics, share our stories, pray, laugh, sing, and serve God through serving those within and beyond our walls. New friends are as warmly welcomed as old.

We are of every age and a wide mix of backgrounds, origins and interests. We acknowledge that we travel through life bound to each other and to God in love and faith. We seek to strengthen those bonds, to deepen both friendship and faith. And so we meet to create a safe place to do just that, sharing our joys, our struggles, our journeys. You’ll feel like you’ve found your mothers and grandmothers, your sisters and daughters.

Meetings are from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the parlor. Everyone, members, friends, and first-time visitors of Capitol Hill United Methodist Church are warmly welcome. Bring your child to the gathering. Child care is also available upon request.

The program for each evening will be posted in the events calendar.

CHUMC Choir

The CHUMC Choir is a vital and historical part of the Sunday service. Known for its excellent contribution to the church, the choir rehearses from September to May on Sunday mornings at 9:45 prior to the worship service. Strong section leadership enables anyone who is comfortable singing in a group to participate fully and help to raise the spirits of the congregation through music. The instruments that accompany the choir include a magnificent pipe organ and concert grand piano. We engage in a variety of musical styles that may include major works such as the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, performed with full orchestra. The choir is off during July and August thus providing an opportunity for choir members to perform solos. We welcome your voice!

Twenties and Thirties (TNT) group

Did you know 40 is the new 30? Whether you are actually twenty or thirty-something, come join CHUMC's fun and active TNT group. CHUMC's TNT-ers meet every second Sunday of the month at a fun and food-filled potluck extravaganza. Check the calendar for specific dates.

The vision for this important ministry is to provide a relaxed space for newcomers to join in and make connections, while encouraging all TNT-ers to get involved in weekly Bible Studies, fellowship groups, and other CHUMC gatherings and events that are already happening, or to form their own "small group."

TNT never "cards" at the door, so if you would like to participate and you aren't sure if you belong--you belong! Children are always welcome, too!

TNT List Serv. In addition to the CHUMC list serv, the Twenties and Thirties group uses a separate e-mail list on Yahoo groups. To join, please email
CHUMC_TNT-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
You will receive a response email with instructions on how to join the group using a Yahoo account. Once you join you can set up the list to send messages to any address you wish. TNT will,
on occasion, have TNT activities that may not be listed in the bulletin or on the CHUMC email list due to their spontaneity or the attempt to cut back on the flood of emails that tend to come from a church email list. We will also use the TNT list to coordinate details for our activities. If you are interested in more TNT info, please join our yahoo group.

Bible Study: Old Testament

Old Testament Disciple Bible Study Class Begins Oct 15
Are you thinking the Old Testament has nothing new to say to us in 2006? Then think again! Join Dottie Yunger as she leads an eye and heart opening journey into the Old Testament, a part of the Bible often overlooked. This shortened version of the traditional Disciple Bible study offers the benefit of in depth Scripture-based study without the uber-long time commitment. The class began Sunday October 15th at 6pm in Room 9 on the LL.

Adult Sunday School

Come and reflect on "Great Themes of the Bible" with Pastor Ginger and other friends from CHUMC. The class meets from 9:45-10:30 each Sunday morning downstairs in the Conference Room. Study books will be provided.

**Special note to parents: bring your child to the nursery or Children's Sunday School and then bring your coffee and yourself to the Adult Bible Study! This will provide a great place for you to connect with other parents…and the bonus is that you're learning about Bible!

The "Great Themes of the Bible" Series presents themes that are universally relevant for the faith formation of all human beings in all times and places. As we reflect upon faith issues in our daily lives, we can engage these themes to learn more about God and what it means to live a life of faith. The first "Great Theme" will be Call: Called to Be God's People. This looks at the various ways God calls and empowers us to live out the purposes for which we were created.

Thursday Night Dinners

Every 3rd Thursday of the month come spend time with your friends at CHUMC. Each month has its own program and plenty of food and fellowship. Dinner will begin at 6:30 and the program at 7:00 pm. (FH) The suggested donation for dinner is $5/person and $10/family.
