THE ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL

 The Administrative Council initiates planning, establishes objectives, adopts goals, establishes the budget, authorizes action, determines policy, receives reports, evaluates and reviews CUMC's mission and ministry.  The Administrative Council shall be amenable to an function as the administrative agency of the charge conference.(Paraphrased from The Book of  Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 1996.)  The Canadensis UMC Administrative Council meets on the second Monday of each  month at 7:30 p.m.

 

THE CRAFTERS

The Crafters are a group of our longtime church members. This special group of  women bake regularly and meet together to make beautiful crafts. They also sponsor regular sales at the Church Cottage to raise funds for individual missions and special church needs. They are happy to have new members join them.  For further information, speak to Helen Grady or join them at their next meeting or sale.

 

PASTOR-PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE 

The Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, under the direction of the charge conference, are assigned the following responsibilities:

· To confer and counsel with the pastor and staff in making an effective ministry, keeping the pastor and staff advised concerning conditions within the congregation as they affect relations between the pastor or staff and the people, and continually interpreting to the people the nature and function of the ministry.

· To develop and approve written job descriptions and titles for associate pastors and other staff members.

· To counsel with the pastor and staff on matters pertaining to their relationship with the congregation, including priorities to be given in the use of their time and skill in relation to the goals and objectives set for the congregation's mission and the demands upon the ministry.

· To provide evaluation annually for the pastor's and staff's use in an ongoing effective ministry and for identifying continuing education needs and plans.

· To consult on matters pertaining to pulpit supply, proposals for compensation, travel expense, vacation, health and life insurance, pension, housing, and other practical matters affecting the work and families of the pastor and staff, and to make annual recommendations regarding such matters to the church council, reporting budget items to the committee on finance.

· To consult with the pastor and staff concerning continuing education and spiritual renewal, to arrange with the church council for the necessary time and financial assistance for the attendance of the pastor and/or staff at such events, and to encourage staff members to seek professional certification in their fields of specialization.

· To enlist, interview, evaluate, review, and recommend annually to the charge conference lay preachers and persons for candidacy for ordained ministry, and to enlist and refer to the General Board of Global Ministries persons for candidacy for missionary service, recognizing that the United Methodist Church affirms the biblical and theological support of women and men of all races and ethnic origin for these ministries.

· To interpret preparation for ordained ministry and the Ministerial Education Fund to the congregation.

· To confer with the pastor and/or other appointed members of the staff if it should become evident that the best interests of the charge and pastor will be served by a change of pastor. The committee shall cooperate with the pastor, the district superintendent, and the bishop in securing clergy leadership.

· To recommend to the church council, after consultation with the pastor, the professional and other staff positions (whether employee or contract) needed to carry out the work of the church or charge. The committee and the pastor shall recommend to the church council a written statement of policy and procedures regarding the process for hiring, contracting, evaluating, promoting, retiring,

· and dismissing staff personnel who are not subject to episcopal appointment as ordained clergy. Until such a policy has been adopted, the committee and the pastor shall have the authority to hire, contract, evaluate, promote, retire, and dismiss nonappointed personnel.

· To recommend to the charge conference, when the size of the employed staff of  the charge makes it desirable, the establishment of a personnel committee. (Paraphrased from The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 1996.)

· as needed.

 

TRUSTEES

The Board of Trustees, under the direction of the charge conference, are assigned the following responsibilities:

· The supervision, oversight, and care of all real property, buildings and equipment owned or acquired by CUMC or its organizations.

· The Trustees are prohibited from violating the rights of any local church organization as found in The Discipline.

· The Trustees are prohibited from preventing or interfering with the pastor in the appropriate use of the facilities for religious services, meetings or purposes.

· The Trustees are responsible for an annual inspection of all property, buildings, and equipment owned by CUMC or its organizations. This inspection shall cover condition, usability, and accessibility issues.

· The Trustees are responsible for an annual review of all property, liability, and criminal insurance coverage on CUMC and its various property or equipment.

· The Trustees are responsible for an annual review of all personnel insurance.

· The Trustees shall receive, administer, and invest all bequests, trusts and trust funds made to CUMC.(Paraphrased from The Book of Discipline of the United  Methodist Church, 1996.)

· The Board of Trustees meets at least quarterly, and more often as needed.

 

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

Women of all ages are invited to join together in this time of fun, friendship and fellowship. This group meetings the 4th Monday of each month in the Fellowship Hall.  All CUMC women are welcome to attend the meetings and events. Please bring your ideas and interests too.
