Dear Friends & Members: There’s something about this time of the year that heightens my spirit of anticipation and strengthens my faith. As I reflect upon why that is I recall getting ready for my freshman year of college. I wasn’t sure what to expect except that I was entering a new environment, facing the demands of ‘higher education’, discovering new friends and developing new relationships. And I was entering Lycoming College by faith. All I had was $100 in my savings account, 25% scholarship, a father who had been out of work for over a year and four years of college expenses ahead of me. I guess that’s what increases my spirit of eagerness and hope at this time of the year and I hope the same is for you. God holds the keys to the door of the future and what’s behind it you can only hope and wait for in the spirit of eagerness. I feel something of that same spirit here in our midst at Canadensis United Methodist Church. The Church Council just adopted a new mission statement which will certainly inspire us to move more intentionally toward the future by faith. Choirs begin practice, children gather for Sunday School, youth attend “The Event”, Circle of Friends prepare for an October Fest so we can gather, share, serve and reach out. We’ll celebrate a “Heritage Sunday” and evaluate the past year and look forward to next year’s ministry at our Church Conference praising God for guiding us in the past and praying for further divine leadership . In all of this we cannot be sure what the future holds or what resources will be needed to meet our expectations. We can only be sure that God goes with us, leads us, dear children along, and opens doors to even more surprising spiritual growth. I invite you to get caught up in this spirit of anticipation and move forward by faith as together we worship, fellowship and serve God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Your pastor, George R. Alt |
