CAMP LOY WHITE News
CAMP LOY WHITE
We are inviting all new and returning ministers to bring a program or a group to Camp Loy White. We are here to serve the church. Camp Loy White is a place apart which allows us to withdraw from the normal routine of things and reflect. What is Camp Loy White? Have you ever heard of Camp Loy White? What is it? Where did it come from? Have you ever seen it?
Camp Loy White is named after a young man who died at the age of 16 in June 1961 in an automobile accident. His parents, Mr. & Mrs. James E. White, donated land and money to establish a camp in his memory. The Gastonia District Camp became a reality when the District Conference voted on May 6, 1962 to accept the gift. Mrs. Mary Beth Brackett Craver, Mrs. R. C. White, Mr. Ed White, Miss Selma White, Mrs. Murriel Murry and Mrs. Mable Kroll made other donations of land. In 1963, more land was purchased bringing the total acreage to 117.9 acres.
In May 1964, the Gastonia District Conference authorized District Trustees to borrow sufficient funds to build a lodge on campus. A five acre lake was constructed in 1964. In May 1965, the Wesley Lodge was completed.
Camp Loy White has grown over the years with the following additions:
---1983-Camp manager/director was hired
---19?? Picnic Shelter was built
---Asbury Lodge was built
---1985-Swimming Pool opened
---1989-Administrator's residence was built
Camp Loy White is here. It is our camp. Is for our use, and to be its steward.
-Submitted by Roy SidesIt’s the time of year we normally think of camping being over. But actually, this is one of the better times of year to camp. If you are looking for a place for your family to get away, a place for a picnic or just to get out for a walk in the woods, to be in touch with nature and God’s creation consider utilizing Camp Loy White. If your youth group is looking for a place for a fall retreat, a church group searching for a neutral zone for a meeting, Camp Loy White offers an ideal setting for this and so much more. Keep us in your thoughts. –Submitted by Roy Sides
(from the Camp Loy White Committee) Looking to the Future
The Camp Loy White Committee has finalized plans for a new Chapel building for the camp. This has been in the planning stage for a number of years now, and at long last is in the final stages. Construction could begin in the near future. When complete, this will be a wonderful addition to the facilities that the Camp can offer to our users, and one we can be proud of.Air Conditioning for the Wesley Lodge is now a reality. We feel this is a major improvement at the camp and one which will be welcomed..
Please be in prayer for these efforts as you consider your support of them.
Thank You Very Much !
