9:15 A.M. Sunday
We model our worship after the early Church as expressed in the New Testament. From the beginning the main day of worship was the Lord's Day.
This was Sunday, the first day of the week.
Acts 20:7 "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them."
In the Book of Acts we do hear of daily worship services that were held in homes.
Acts 2:46-47 "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."
These services were simple, consisting for the most part of praise.
Eph. 5:18-20 "Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Scripture was also essential in early Christian worship.
Scripture was taught, preached and sung.
Col. 3:16-17 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
The first Christians devoted themselves to prayer
and often celebrated the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion.
1 Cor. 11:23-28 "For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
All of these elements are included in worship at the Calvary United Methodist Church; Sunday worship, praise, Scripture, prayer and Holy Communion. Also, we encourage small groups to meet together for worship throughout the week in homes and other meeting places.
You are welcome to join us as we worship the Lord!
