CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HISTORY

In 1903 Mr. L.B. (Berry) Blalock donated a plot of ground at South Eighth and Farthing streets, for the erection of a church and parsonage.  This was to be known as Blalock’s Chapel.

The Rev. A. G. Holder organized the church.

In 1919 the name of the church was changed to Second Methodist Church and remained that way until 1942 when the name was changed to Calvary.

In 1933 the original frame building was torn down and replaced by a larger and more modern brick structure.

In 1991 the church moved from its original location to the intersection of Tucker Road and Highway 303.
