Our Sunday School is Sunday Cool. Our current rotation is: Jesus calls His disciples Our Christian Education Program meets every Sunday at 9:30 We utilize the workshop rotation method to teach our children about Jesus and give them a strong foundation in the bible. We began using this method in November 2003 after we (the teachers for the children) attended a training workshop that highlighted this method. The students and the teachers here at Calvary have both benefited from the rotation model. The Workshop Rotation Model, also popularly known as WORM, focuses on teaching utilizing a variety of different methods that take into consideration the different ways we all learn. Some of us remember well what we say or read and write (verbal), some learn better when we are actively involved (physical), others are analytical and want to know how and why (logical). There are also those who are learn best when they interact with others (interpersonal), or when they are viewing, or creating something (visual). Then there are those who learn the most when the explore an idea or project independently (reflective) and those who remember well what was presented to them musically (musical). Each person learns utilizing all of these methods but have strengths and weaknesses. Workshop rotation model helps us to address the strengths and reduce weaknesses. Utilizing this method we organize our teaching to use multiple workshops for learning a bible story. The same bible story is learned over a four to six week period but each week it is presented in a different format; drama, music, art, crafts, storytelling, puppetry, audio/visual, computer, games, mission, science, cooking, prayer, etc. The story and the accompanying bible memory verse are emphasized each week to maintain a connection through the rotation. Some of the rotations we have taught include Creation, Noah's Ark, The Lord's Prayer, The Beatitudes, The 23rd Psalm, Abraham and Sarah, Ruth, The Resurrection, and the Christmas story using this method. Each week the students might go to a different room depending on the rotation. The kitchen, cooking and some crafts, the story corner (storytelling), Dramas (multiple performance areas), the computer lab, etc. Here is a sample lesson from the Ten Commandments a games workshop called: To the mountaintop and back with the Ten Commandments If you would like to learn more or to have your child attend please contact the church or come meet us in the multipurpose room any Sunday at 9:30am.
Our Adult Sunday program is in a small group format and meets in the parlor. Led by Richard Shank this group is a book based study. Join this group any Sunday at 9:30 in the parlor. Wednesday evening Bible study meets at 7:30pm every Wednesday in the multipurpose room. This is an informal mixed small group led by the pastor. Contact the church to join this program.
