1908-2009
Methodism came to the Caledonia Community in the 1830's and was first practiced in homes. Next members met in a log cabin which was later followed by a white frame structure on the site of the current building. It was in 1909, in honor of her mother, Maria Underwood, that the Anna Harkness family made a memorial gift for the construction of our current building. Beginning in July 1908 forty stone masons from Scotland began cutting and dressing the stones for our church. Over the next sixteen months they fashioned an English-Gothic church home for future generations. The original white frame structure would have fit within the current sanctuary space.
It is with pride and thanksgiving
that the current congregation commemorates that gift of nearly 100
years ago. We proceed this year with our centennial plans for the
commemoration dates of the initial groundbreaking through the laying
of the cornerstone to the final dedication, remembering all previous
congregations that have continued to maintain and update this
beautiful building. Our prayer is that it continues to inspire both
the current and future congregations to share God's message
throughout our community.
