UMYF

The goal of the BUMC Youth Group is to bring Middle and Senior High school age youth together to learn Christian principles and how to apply them through fellowship with each other, bible study, social activities, and service - both to the church and the local and world community. The meetings include activities such as:

Relevant Bible Study – The group will grow in their knowledge and understanding of God’s Word through studying the Bible. Through a variety of activities, they will learn to interpret and apply the Bible to “real-life” situations in their daily lives.

Mission “Mania” – The group participates in mission activities within our community and around the world. The local missions focus on Frederick County where the youth live, work, attend school and play. Some of our local mission projects have included making lunches for the Frederick Rescue Mission, buying items for and filling Christmas stockings for the Salvation Army, making blankets for Project Linus, and raising funds for Habitat for Humanity and victims of Hurricane Katrina. On a global level, our youth group also participates every year in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement to fight world hunger. Our youth have embraced this mission and perform a variety of fundraising activities to support the cause throughout the year. We have been consistently recognized by World Vision as one of their top fundraising groups.

Social Activities – The group participates in many social activities with a view toward team building and connections with like-minded Christian youth. In some cases the social activities are also used for the bible study mentioned above. For example, the group will attend a movie as a social activity then at a later meeting use the movie as a basis for the bible study. Our group enjoys bowling, ice skating, basketball, kickball, attending baseball games, laser tag, and our annual Church-wide family fun night.

Retreats – The youth go on theme-based retreats. Our retreats help our youth grow in Christian fellowship and love and understanding of their relationship to God through Jesus Christ.

Church Service – The youth of BUMC are very active in the life of our church. They serve as acolytes, ushers, greeters, assist with Children’s Church and are liturgists on the third Sunday of the month. The youth also conduct services for the congregation during the year.
