What you'll find as you scroll down the page:

Who We Are, Where We Are (our facilities), Where We've Been (our local roots), What We're Doing.

The vision for the First United Methodist Church of Buffalo is to

offer Christ's love to the world by:

  • listening to and caring for one another
  • examining prayerfully our attitudes and practices
  • energizing participation in the community of Christ
  • living as generous stewards of His love.

Who We Are -- "Offer Christ's Love"

We are a church of Jesus Christ, rooted and grounded in the love of God, inspired through the Holy Spirit. We are a community of faith, and we are eager to share it. We believe that we offer a place and a fellowship where Christians and seekers can come together for worship, study, and growth.
We cherish God's Word and attempt to live as it commands. We invite you to join us as we put into action Christ's words, "...Whatever you did for one of the least...of mine, you did for me... (Matthew 25:40);" and "Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I am in their midst...(Matthew 18:20)." Our goal is to remain faithful to the commandments of our Lord. Our church places special emphasis on prayer through active prayer chains. We provide Christian caregiving through an active Stephen Ministry program. We are a mission-minded congregation and welcome people from all walks of life to join with us as we continue our spiritual journey together. We take seriously the leading of Methodism's founder John Wesley, when he said, "Offer them Christ!"

First United Methodist Church of Buffalo is a part of the Big Horn District and The Yellowstone Annual Conference under the leadership of Bishop Elaine Stanovsky. We participate in the ecumenical Christian community through the Buffalo Ministerial Association and the Wyoming Association of Churches.

Where We Are -- Our Facilities

  • Our Worship and Social Centers at the corner of Fort and Adams Streets in Buffalo, Wyoming are accessible to physically challenged persons. The front entry is reached by a gently sloping ramp. We offer large print resources, assisted listening devices, handicap accessible rest rooms and parking. We also offer audio tapes of our worship services to friends who are unable to attend.
  • The Worship Center and the Social Center are joined by a Cloister entry way, which also houses the Barbara Stevens Memorial Library.
  • Our Education Center, just north of the church at 132 N. Adams, has classrooms, a meeting room that is available to community groups, and the church office.
  • Find us on US Highway 16, just a block west of Buffalo's Main Street.

Where We've Been -- Our Roots

The Methodist Episcopal Church (now the United Methodist Church) began in Buffalo in 1890. For the next decade services were held at various locations around town. In 1898 the property where the church is now located was purchased and the original church was built. The main part of the sanctuary (worship center) that we use today is that original building. Additions have been made, a Social Center built next door in 1917, an Education Center in 1959, and the connecting cloister in 1992. Our Church Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

What We're Doing -- 2008

Sunday School. Adults and children gather in the Education Building every Sunday at 9:45 AM for learning and growing in faith. Several excellent teachers work with the adults, children and youth, and we are fortunate to have great music resources, including a tone chimes program.

A noon-time study group provides the opportunity to focus on that part of our mission statement which reads, "examine prayerfully our attitudes and practices." We invite you to visit with us as we seek Him together.
Each Sunday we gather to worship God with praise and prayer. (Worship 11 AM during the school year and 9:30 A.M. during the summer months, Sunday School at 9:45 AM during the school year).  On the first Sunday of the month we respond to Christ's invitation to all as we gather at His table for Communion.
United Methodist Women Executive Committee meets quarterly to do the business of the organization.  All women are invited to join one or both Circles:  Ruth Circle meets at 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month for programs of devotion and a little dessert in member's homes; Tabitha Circle meets at 5:15 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Social Center for a light supper and inspirational program.
United Methodist Men invite all men to meet with them at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday each month for supper and programs of inspiration in the Social Center.
