Llama Backpacking Trip

On August 27-29, thirteen of us went backpacking in the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Area.  We used 12 Llamas provided by Dee Goodman of Akron to carry much of our camping gear.  It was often cold and rainy, but the 15 of us grew from our experience and basically learned the meaning of what it means to be Good Samaritans, good neighbors to each other.

llama3.jpg (37061 bytes) Well, Prospector may not be pretty as far as llamas go, but he had lots of personality.  Prospector was the Llama that Rev. Anderson got to lead on the trip up the mountain to our 11,300 foot camp.

llamas.jpg (3092 bytes) The Llamas:   Llamas are a great way to go backpacking, because the backs that carry most of the stuff are theirs.  If you want to know if llamas will spit on you . . . ask Bo!
packers.jpg (4097 bytes) The Campers:   There were thirteen of us from the church and Dee Goodman (the outfitter) and his son, David.  Campers included Bo and Sandy Chapin, who organized the whole thing, Ned Chapin, Becky and Katie Mohrlang, Paula Pattee, Sharon and Kasie George, Tim, Brenda, Emily and Dillon Oakley, and Harold Anderson.
scene.jpg (2484 bytes) The Scenery:   We camped in the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Area.  This was a beautiful area, but boy was it high - 11,300 feet where we camped.  Still, the scenery was beautiful and often times breathtaking.
