Welcome to the Brush United Methodist Church homepage!

I want to take a moment to welcome you to the Brush United Methodist Church homepage. I have been the pastor of Brush UMC since last July, and boy have the intervening months been a lot of fun! We are a growing church that is seeking the "vision of the Almighty," and has God ever given us a mighty vision. We are in the process of re-evaluating everything from our Sunday Schools to our buildings, and not only has this process given us important insight into the present state of our ministry, but it has also helped us identify just exactly where we want to go. Where's that? Let me tell you.

Christian Education

We have been working hard to make our Sunday Schools the very best in Christian Education. Not only do we have a growing Children's Sunday School section, but we also have growing youth classes as well. Starting with our next fall session, we are also going to implement a new Adult Sunday School format. We will have two ongoing classes. One is a Bible Study class that will be a continuous study of various books of the Bible. The other ongoing class is called the "Kitchen Class." You've got it . . . they meet in the kitchen. This class is an informal meeting around the kitchen table with plenty of coffee and plenty to talk about. This class talks about church issues, social issues, biblical issues, or whatever seems relevant to the class members' lives. You won't want to miss this one if you like a laid-back, informal context in which to speak casually about the way God is at work in your life.

In addition to these classes, we are going to be adding two different types of sessions. Both will be organized around short term classes that deal with a variety of areas ranging from parenting classes to philosophy of religion. If you want a brief three to four week class to help you think about how God is involved in a whole range of areas, these classes will be for you.

We are not leaving out the summer. This summer, we will continue our classes, but in June we are going to be doing something a little different. Instead of Vacation Bible School for children only, we are going to have a Vacation Church School for the whole church family. This will include something for the children, something for youth and something for adults of all ages. Each evening, we will have classes and events for all our church family culminating with a trip to Elitch's Fun Park in Denver on Saturday. This promises to be an exciting and informative time for everyone this summer.

Worship

Our worship service is really growing, and the vision that God has given our leaders is to have achieved 200 in attendance by the year 2000! That's going to take a lot of doing, but if God gave us the vision, God will also give us the insight and courage to achieve it. In an effort to do so, we are going to be making some changes. We are looking at our present physical facility, and we are going to upgrade our sound system to include multimedia capabilities, tract lighting and everything that is needed to move our worship context into the 21st century. We are also looking to make changes to our stage area so that we can use more drama in our worship, and open up an area where our youth and other groups will also be able to put on their plays. Right now our worship is exciting, fun and meaningful, but it only promises to get better as we pursue the vision that God has given us.

Ministry Opportunities

We have a wide range of ministry opportunities ranging from an active United Methodist Women's group to our Evangelism Committee. We offer through these committees and groups the opportunity to work with people in all parts of life as we seek to minister to them in the grace and love of Christ. The vision that God has given us is that our call is to minister to the needs of not only our church family, but to all the people in the Brush community.

Fellowship Opportunities

There are plenty of opportunities for fellowship ranging from carry-in dinners following the worship service to "Souper Suppers" on the second Wednesday of every month. Souper Suppers allows you to take a break from fixing dinner for yourself or the family. We fix it for you, and you can enjoy a good bowl of soup, all the timmings and great fellowship.

But that is not all. This summer we are going to start of a whole host of new ministries including a Brush UMC Riding Club, bicycling events, day hikes, picnics, backpacking trips and all types of other activities designed to bring us closer together as a church family. You won't want to miss these!

Youth

Our youth group is becoming quite active, and we have a great deal of fun and spiritual growth opportunities planned for them as well. This summer we will be planning a float trip, we are working on a missions trip to help a new church build their building, and a whole lot of other meetings that will be just down right fun! In addition, the youth put on a play around Christmas, a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service, and they design their own worship service for Youth Sunday. These are excellent opportunities for them to learn more about their faith and the opportunities it provides for their daily lives. In addition, we have just completed two Confirmation Classes, and a good group of our youth will be confirmed on Easter Sunday. I am excited about our youth group, and I think you will be too.

The People

The one thing that really struck me when I came to Brush UMC last July was the people. There isn't a better group of Christians anywhere. They are friendly, they like to have fun, and they strive to do God's will both in their own lives and in the life of our community.

Why don't you come meet us. We want to meet you, as we strive to live out the mighty vision that our Almighty God has placed before us.

In His Service,

Harold Anderson,
Pastor
