From our Pastoral Care Associate |

Visit the staff page for a brief bio of Monica Rich, our Pastoral Care Associate.
Monica is adding more persons to her list of those who find it difficult to attend worship each week. She reported to the Church Council that she is now seeing about 24 members on a reasonably regular basis who are not able to be in their places on Sundays. Our Communion Pairs see to it that the blessed elements are taken and administered to those requesting them every First Sunday. These services are a blessing to all those involved! A Note from Monica In the college Sunday school class we discussed how the movies and lyrics in current culture can trivialize prayer. We all learn what prayer is and the basics on how to pray from church and mentors and culture. But when we need to connect to God the most, in the dark moments in our lives, prayer just seems to well from within us without regard for anything we have learned but from an aching place in our hearts. If you ever wonder what the Holy Spirit is like, that IS the Holy Spirit. It is God reaching out for you and helping you to communicate with God. Not all moments with God are that dramatic. Most moments with God are just a word whispered for a friend you are thinking about or a personal need in our day. Remembering to include God in our day’s conversations for the small things in life seems harder for us to remember. The Holy Spirit is also nudging us along when we think of a problem at school or work or with family. Briefly turn your thoughts to God and request God’s intervention. Recognize the gifts of a grandchild’s smile, a bird that comes to the window, a friend that calls, and give thanks. And don’t forget that God pays attention when we pray for events on the news that tug at our hearts… suffering children in Sudan, abused women in Afghanistan, jobless Americans. Especially remember to pray for our church. Pray that we will each grow closer to Christ and to each other and that such growth will help us to know how to better minister in our world. Let’s remember to share our concerns with each other so that we know better how to pray for each other. Thank you for your prayers for me and my family. Let me know how to pray for you. email Monica |
